Moreton catchment

Under the Water Reform and Other Legislation Amendment Act 2014, water resource plans and resource operation plans have been replaced by new planning instruments. Water planning outcomes for the Moreton catchment are now provided by the Water Plan (Moreton) 2007, Moreton Water Management Protocol, six  resource operations licence and associated operations manual.

Once these documents have been prepared in accordance with the transitional provisions in the Act they will be made available below. Read more about the changes to water legislation.

Plan amendments

We are currently proposing to amend the Moreton water plan and resource operations plan. The proposed amendments focus on water allocation and management arrangements in the Central Lockyer Valley Water Supply Scheme.

A Statement of Proposals (PDF, 568.0KB) was released in October 2015 for public comment. Public information sessions were held in Gatton and Glenore Grove in November and December 2015 to brief local communities.

Submissions on the Statement of Proposals have now closed. Over 150 submissions were received and will be used to inform the development of a draft water plan and resource operations plan for the Moreton area.

We will continue to consult with the local community regarding the proposed amendments throughout the development of the draft water plans. Further opportunity for consultation and submission on these proposals will also occur when the draft water plans are released for public comment.

To keep the community informed, the department has prepared a newsletter (PDF, 189.3KB) which contains the latest information on the progress of the water planning process in the Central Lockyer Valley Water Supply Scheme. Further newsletters will published periodically throughout the planning process.

Your local DNRM officers are also available to talk to you about these proposed changes. For further enquiries, please call the Woolloongabba office on 1800 994 188, or email: wrpMoreton@dnrm.qld.gov.au.

Water plan

  • The Moreton water plan (listed under the Water Act 2000) was released in March 2007. An amended plan was released in October 2008.

On 25 November 2016 the Minister published the Water Resource (Moreton) Plan (Postponement of Expiry) Notice 2016 (PDF 136KB) to postpone the expiry of the Moreton water plan to 14 December 2026.

Resource operations plan

The Moreton resource operations plan was approved in December 2009.

Lockyer Valley groundwater management

Due to re-prioritisation of projects within the department, the Notice of Works process in Implementation Area 2A has been deferred.

Consequently, licences for the take of groundwater within this area will not be issued in the immediate future but any information provided to the department throughout this process will be retained and utilised should the Notice of Works process recommence in the future.
