Gulf catchment

Under the Water Reform and Other Legislation Amendment Act 2014, water resource plans and resource operation plans have been replaced by new planning instruments. Water planning outcomes for the Gulf catchment are now provided by the Water Plan (Gulf) 2007, Gulf Water Management Protocol, two Resource  Operations Licences and associated operations manual and one Distribution Operations Licence and associated operations manual.

Once these documents have been prepared in accordance with the transitional provisions in the Act they will be made available below. Read more about the changes to water legislation.

Water plan

The Gulf water plan was approved in November 2007. An amendment to provide for reserves of general and Indigenous unallocated water in the Flinders and Gilbert river catchments commenced on 21 August 2015.

Resource operations plan

The Gulf resource operations plan (PDF, 4.8MB) was finalised in June 2010 and amended in 2011, 2014.

The Gulf resource operations plan was further amended on 21 August 2015 concurrently with the water resource plan amendment to provide for the permanent and seasonal assignment of licences that may be granted from the new unallocated water reserves in the Flinders and Gilbert river catchments.

A consultation report (PDF, 391.1KB) is available, which includes an overview of how the issues raised in submissions were dealt with.

Unallocated water

We have now commenced a process to release unallocated water across management areas of the Gulf. More information can be found in the public notice.
