Georgina and Diamantina catchment

Under the Water Reform and Other Legislation Amendment Act 2014, water resource plans and resource operation plans are being replaced by new planning instruments. Water planning outcomes for the Georgina and Diamantina catchment are now provided by the Water Plan (Georgina and Diamantina) 2004 and Georgina and Diamantina Water Management Protocol.

Once these documents have been prepared in accordance with the transitional provision in the Act they will be made available below. Read more about the changes to water legislation.

Plan expiry postponed

The Georgina and Diamantina water plan was due to expire on 1 September 2014. The Minister notified the intention to postpone the expiry of the plan for ten years to 5 August 2024.

The Minister's performance assessment report (PDF, 475.3KB) provides a summary of the reasons underpinning the proposal to postpone.

The public submission period on the proposal to postpone the expiry of the Georgina and Diamantina water plan has now closed. After considering all properly made submissions, the Minister has decided to postpone the expiry of the water plan until 5 August 2024.
