Modernising the state land framework

State land administration has continued to improve and evolve over the past decade. Building on this work and following extensive consultation with the community, local government and other stakeholders, we will soon develop a new policy framework to improve and broaden the way we manage Queensland's stock route network.

The proposed framework will give local governments more autonomy to administer and manage local stock routes in a way that is consistent with the state's stock route network management strategy.

Under this framework, local governments will have greater ability to generate an economic return from the use of stock routes to support their day-to-day management and maintenance of this vital infrastructure.

The framework will also include special management areas to protect environmental and cultural heritage values in the 72,000km stock route network.

The stock route changes are the first of a set of land administration changes to simplify and modernise Queensland's state land administration framework.
