Land resumption

To meet our community responsibilities, the government may sometimes need to acquire privately held land to provide services and community facilities such as schools and hospitals.

Land may be acquired though negotiation with the landholder or through a compulsory acquisition process, known as land resumption.

This guide sets out the process we must follow when resuming land and explains your rights if your land is resumed.
